How About a Knuckle Sammich?!
“3” life periods. Okay, here is where the stuff begins to get REAL! Let me tell you once you learn and become aware, acting unaware can be a REAL Mutha. Believe me, you will most definitely learn the lesson in the change. In my last post, I talked about the “1” reason for genuine transformation. It has everything to do with how ya THINKING — Period.
Real talk…..If we want good change to succeed and stick, we have got to: 1) do an environment scan (internal and external) = Your Life, and 2) ask some hard and maybe sticky questions! That is the whole idea, RIGHT?! Growth?! We manage the changing process to maximize our success.
So, we are going to have, what I like to call, a thinking cap conversation and look at “3” life periods — past, present, and future. These three periods have a BIG, HUGE affect on your thinking. I found that looking at these times can aid in asking some hard and revealing questions about what’s really going on INSIDE.
Like what you want and what you do not want showing up in your life environment. Look at it from a practical perspective, what is the real good you desire for yourself? I had to ask that question; the real good you want needs definition. Being clear is essential.
Anywhoo, we could easily talk about each of these life periods separately, and we probably will sometime in the future. I am OPEN! But I say, let’s take a brief look right now, and I am going to mention “3” books that help me look at each of these places in my life. I found them helpful and I hope you do too! Let’s jump into the rabbit hole…..
Here are my thoughts on the “3” above mentioned life seasons……
We need to start at the heart. Clean the attic = past = forgiveness. First and foremost, you must clean the heart house. Start in the ATTIC = your feelings. This means a lot of forgiveness, starting with yourself and the people in life you are holding resentments in your heart against. How can I say this….This [email protected] is TOXIC! Don’t block blessings over perceived past hurts. Get your read on…..In the Meantime: Finding Yourself and the Love You Want by Iyanla VanZant (1999). It will aid in softening and morphing your heart.
Wash the dishes = present = be mindful. Number two in the life period is NOW. Take this to mean “2” things: 1) examine resentments and 2) do what is right in front of you. The smallest action moving in the direction where you would like to be. Be mindful in your thoughts, behaviors, and actions.
Lolly-gagging or Drifting through life is a Boo move! No balance, no LIFE! You always have a choice — ask the hard questions or drift. I have learned you either participate in living or live a L(ife) I(n) E(xcess). Take that from a person who lived mightily and excessively imbalanced for so many years! Last but not Least…
Gas the Caaar = future = trust the process. How does the saying go… Trust the Process. This is a truth if I have every known one! I learned the hard way. Hahaha. Whether we want to or not. Either make it easy and a little less challenging by trusting and surrendering to the change helping to grow you, or the same life lesson playground will keep popping up until it is learned. Which would you prefer?
The answer to that question means a couple of things: a) make a commitment to learning patience and calm as a practice; b) celebrate gratefulness for small successes daily; c) work at adopting a new perspective about what’s good right now, and d) fight for your best life.
